It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas... It’s that time of year already! With Christmas fast approaching (yes, we’re only just over a month away), it’s time to start thinking about preparing and getting into the mood for the festive occasion.
After a quieter Christmas last year due to lockdown, where we shared ways you could still have a fantastic Christmas, this year you may want to make the most of the festive occasion. With so many things to think about, we’ve picked out 12 ways to feel festive this Christmas.
1. Picking out the tree
One way you can get ready for the festive occasion is picking out your Christmas tree. As the centrepiece of your decorations, you want to make sure your tree not only looks good but also gets you into the festive spirit.
With so many things to consider, picking out your tree requires plenty of thought. Choosing where the tree will go and measuring up helps ensure the tree fits perfectly. Allow for a little room around the tree and leave some headroom between the point of the tree and ceiling for your crowning decoration – after all, we don’t want a crushed fairy!
Whether you choose a live or artificial tree, there are so many choices available. Maybe this year you fancy a change from the artificial tree? If you prefer a live tree, check our top tips on picking the perfect tree. Whatever you decide on, we have a range of live and artificial trees here at Hilltop for you to browse.
2. Hanging up the decorations
Deck the halls! Hanging up the decorations can be another great way to help get into the festive spirit. Once you’ve selected the perfect tree, you can start to dig out the decorations or mix things up with some new sparkling baubles and tinsel. You may even want to go all out and put some festive lights up to really help create a winter wonderland. If you feel like mixing it up this year, check out our Facebook page or pop in and see all the dazzling Christmas decorations we have available, including our light up tunnel!
3. Christmas jumpers
We’ve all got one buried away somewhere, but digging out the Christmas jumper is another great way to get into the spirit of things. Whether your jumper dons a Santa, reindeer, snowman or a Christmas tree, wearing it will help give that extra magical touch.
4. Presents under the tree
Seeing the presents under the tree is another great way to get you in the festive mood. Buying presents can be stressful and take away from the delights of the season. But, starting to buy presents early is a great way to reduce the stress as Christmas day approaches. If you’re stuck for some gift ideas, pop in and browse our fabulous selection of gifts.
5. Counting down the days
Counting down the days until Christmas is another great Christmas tradition. The advent calendar is the perfect way to get this countdown going. If you are feeling creative and want to make your own, we have plenty of festive products and displays to get the creative juices flowing, or if you are not feeling creative and want to get one ready-made, you can come in browse our countdown calendars too.
6. Sending Christmas cards and presents
While sending letters is becoming a thing of the past, lots of people are still sending Christmas cards each year. Royal Mail revealed that 72% of people still prefer to receive a physical card over a digital greetings message. So sending out those Christmas cards is a great way to add a meaningful touch to the Christmas season. While you may not able to see all your friends and family due to the pandemic, sending out your cards and presents is a great way to keep in touch and help make it the season of good cheer.
P.S. don’t forget to check the postage delivery times to make sure your cards and presents arrive before the festive day!
7. Christmas lights
While it may be too late to see the switching on of the lights this year, the annual festive lights are up and switched on around the city centre. A tradition every year, switching on the lights tells us Christmas is nearly upon us. It really does help to create a buzz leading up the Christmas.
You could still have a go at setting up your own Christmas lights display. We have plenty of Christmas lights on show at Hilltop, so come in and take a look for some inspiration! You may even have a neighbour with a big show of Christmas lights?
8. Christmas market
While you may have missed out on seeing the lights switched on, the Coventry Christmas market is set to arrive on November 25th. The Broadgate area of the city centre will be transformed with cabins providing festive food, drinks and gifts right up until Christmas Eve. Star-themed lights will help add to the atmosphere. So what better way to get in the spirit of things than to indulge in some festive treats!
9. Festive food
We all have our favourite Christmas treats we like to indulge in. Whether it’s mince pies, mulled wine, Christmas pudding or chocolate, treating ourselves to these favourites is another fantastic way to celebrate Christmas right? You could even have a go at making some yourself or come to the Hilltop café and see what we have on offer.
10. Creating a festive mood
You hear it in all the shops and on the radio, but is there any better way to spread Christmas cheer than to listen to some Christmas music? Whether you have a playlist of your favourite songs or just simply have it on in the background, it can be a great way to set the mood while hanging up the decorations or preparing for Christmas dinner.
11. Unwind with a festive film or special
Continuing with creating a festive mood, it has become a tradition every year to watch those festive films or specials. We all have our favourites too. Sitting down to watch these holiday classics with a cup of hot chocolate is another great way to feel Christmassy.
12. Santa Claus is coming to town
With not long left till Christmas, Santa will soon be on his way to spread good cheer. If you can’t wait until Christmas Eve to see Santa, come and see our famous dancing Santa band which has now taken its annual residence at Hilltop.
