Garden furniture trends of 2021
2021 is set to be a year unlike any other (as was 2020). With the pressures (and boredom) of lockdown throughout the Winter months, we are all desperate for some nice weather so we can start enjoying our gardens once again. With such a rubbish 2020, it makes sense that we will want to make the most of our outdoor spaces this year. Hopefully, we can all start mixing with other households soon and, fingers crossed, host garden parties and barbecues by the summer!
So, what does 2021 have in store for our garden furniture trends and preferences?
Creature Comforts
We’re all craving a little comfort at the moment, and that trend will continue as the weather permits us to spend more time in our gardens. In fact, we’ve all been spending so much time in our homes that the summer will consist of spending long, relaxing days, unwinding in the garden. But to do that properly you need all your creature comforts at hand. We expect to see many people purchasing comfortable sofa sets, plus cushions and accessories, for optimal comfort! And don’t be surprised to see new purchases of hanging chairs and cocoon chairs, for that little bit of extra cosiness. Let’s just hope the British weather is kind to use this summer!
Sophistication
Modern furniture has erred towards ‘sophistication’ for a few years now, with minimalist styles, clean lines and neutral colours becoming the norm in many homes. We expect this trend to continue into the garden in 2021 with simple, sophisticated furniture taking precedent over the more ornate styles of previous generations.
Look out for stylish, rectangular tables and chairs, simple designs, and white and grey colour schemes. Plus a dash of colour with the addition of stylish and comfortable cushions and accessories.
Inside Space to Outside Space
Gardens are now treated by many as an extension to their indoor space. And this can be seen with the garden furniture following the current trends of furniture in our home. Of course, it makes perfect sense – To make our gardens truly comfortable, we need furniture that helps us to feel at home! Many of the sofa sets, bistro sets and modular dining sets currently on offer follow this trend. Throw in some comfortable cushions, and you’ve got yourself a cosy, relaxing haven to while away those summer days! Just make sure you have somewhere safe to store your cushions, because the British weather will not be very forgiving if you leave them outside!
Portable Gardens
Flowers and plants are arguably the most important element in any garden, adding colour and ambience in abundance. But the reality is that many people have small gardens or courtyards, or don’t have the time or energy to spend digging borders. Well, good news… You don’t have to! Portable gardens are all the rage at the moment and rightly so. They are easy to manage, simple to move, and they look great too! Providing a vintage, cottage feel to your garden. A range of trellis troughs, deep root planters, and raised herb beds are available to transform your garden and provide much needed colour, style, and panache to your outside space.
As we look forward to the lockdown lifting and a return to normality, our gardens are going to play an ever more important role in our lives this year. Whether it’s spending summer days with the kids, trying to keep sane, or (fingers crossed) arranging garden get-togethers with much-missed friends and family, our gardens will play a pivotal role for us all this year!
