Do you want to create the garden of your dreams this year, but not sure where to start? Now that the Spring season is here, it’s the perfect time to Find out 20 Secret Gardening Tips and Hacks for Improving your Garden.
Location
It’s important to make sure you choose the best location possible for your vegetable garden, taking in to account the condition of your soil, how much daily sun your vegetable garden will receive, as well as protection from any harsh elements. Sun loving vegetables require a minimum of 6 hours of sun light, so ensure to choose a spot within your garden where you’ll receive the most sunlight! (sun loving plants can include tomatoes, peppers, chillies, corn, and beans)
For the Beginners – Start Small
If you’re new to growing your own produce, it’s better to start small and learn slowly rather than throwing yourself into the deep end, as attempting to grow multiple varieties at once can become quite overwhelming since each variety will require their own maintenance. We advise starting with 5 different vegetables to grow. Remember, each packet of seeds can contain up to a hundred seeds! So, if you’re feeling confident, you can plant a few of each variety. If you don’t have a lot of space, plenty of vegetables can thrive in containers, meaning you can create the perfect vegetable garden even if you only have a balcony space available.
Grow Vegetables you Want to Eat
More is not always better! This may seem obvious, but it’s better to grow what you will enjoy to eat. By growing what you love, you’ll be more invested in your vegetable garden, and will be more likely to enjoy the gardening process as a whole. If you try to grow vegetables that you’re not sure you’ll enjoy, you could end up throwing away your hard work or begging to offload your vegetables to friends and family.
Make Sure your Vegetables have Enough Room
Ensure your vegetables have enough room to grow, or else you could find your vegetable plants entangling and competing against each other in order to grow properly. So that your vegetable crops can grow properly, be sure to check your seed packets, as this will contain information on necessary spacing. Allowing airflow between your crops will also help with pollination.
Watch out for Weeds
Weeds will be in competition with your vegetable crops for water and nutrients, so keep an eye on your vegetable garden regularly for any sprouting weeds and remove them as soon as you spot them! Use your hands to pull them out, or use a range of our weed removal tools to make sure to get rid of the whole weed, right down to the root.
