Hilltop Garden Centre’s Terrarium Tips
There's no better time than the winter season to turn your attention indoors and introduce new plants into your home. After all, adding houseplants has been proven to improve our overall mood. Decorating your home with houseplants is the perfect way to beat those January blues. Terrariums, in particular, are ideal for all homes - especially closed terrariums! This is because they create a mini-ecosystem, so even if you have a low light or dry space, they'll still be able to thrive. We've got some great terrarium kits at Hilltop Garden Centre, so be sure to read below for the best terrarium tips and tricks!
Pick the right location
Our first terrarium tip is to pick the right location. Be sure to place your terrarium in a spot with indirect sunlight, as direct sunlight can fry the plants inside the glass. In addition, be sure to keep away from direct heat sources, such as radiators or fireplaces, as this can cause your terrarium to overheat and dry out.
Snip the Dead Leaves
The second of our terrarium tips is to snip any dead leaves. Dry and dead leaves in your terrarium can spread mould and fungus, affecting the overall health of your terrarium. Be sure to remove them as soon as you spot them!
Once your plants have established themselves in their new home, plant leaves may be pushed up against the tips of glass if they grow. If left alone, they may end up rotting from damp, which can also affect the overall health of your terrarium. Remember to remove them as well to keep your terrarium healthy and thriving!
Invest in a Misting Bottle
Investing in a quality misting bottle is another of our terrarium tips. If you have an open terrarium, it’s important to remember to avoid pouring water directly onto your plants! Excess water has nowhere to go, so it can be easy to overwater your plants. Using a misting bottle to water your plants ensures you can water your plants without excess.
At Hilltop Garden Centre, you’ll find everything you need to transform your home into an indoor, lush green space!
